He orchestrated Wolverine’s last waltz, and is now preparing to resurrect the most famous bounty hunter in the galaxy with Star Wars Boba It’s Cold Outside Christmas Shirt, Hoodie, Sweater. According to The Hollywood Reporter, American James Mangold, acclaimed for his work on Logan, will write and direct the Star Wars spin-off dedicated to Boba Fett, the third film derived from the intergalactic saga after Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Solo: A Star Wars Story. Before him, the names Joe Johnston (Captain America) and Josh Trank (Chronicle) had been mentioned. An eclectic and versatile filmmaker, James Mangold has worked in ten different genres, from superheroes (Wolverine the fight of the immortal and Logan) to detective stories (Copland), drama (A Stolen Life), the western (3h10 for Yuma), biopic (Walk the Line), romantic comedy (Kate and Leopold), psychological slasher (Identity) or action comedy (Night and Day). It is therefore difficult to guess the tone that will be given to this Boba Fett adventure, eagerly awaited by fans.

The Mandalorian bounty hunter and warrior has been one of the most iconic characters in the Star Wars universe since his appearance in The Empire Strikes Back. Mysterious, silent, ruthless, he is hidden behind a helmet and a damaged armor covered with gadgets, and works mostly for the Empire and the Hutt clan. His mission was to track down Han Solo and deliver him (under carbonic freezing) to Jabba on Tatooine in the original trilogy.
Trivially (and even shamefully) eliminated in Le Retour du Jedi where Han Solo inadvertently sent him to Sarlacc’s mouth, Boba Fett was reintroduced in an unpublished scene in the special edition of Episode IV in 1997, before revealing his youth and his face (in the guise of Daniel Logan) in L’Attaque des Clones in 2002. We learned then that the character was an unmodified clone of bounty hunter Jango Fett. Since the death of his father, beheaded by Mace Windu at the end of Episode II, the character has roamed the extended Star Wars universe, between novels, comic books, video games and animated series. In particular in five episodes of Clone Wars, in which he was once again camped by Daniel Logan.
Now 30 years old (he will celebrate his 31st birthday on June 6th), could the New Zealand actor (who had camped Captain Fett in… Sharknado 4!) take over the command of the Slave I ship for this spin-off? Will Boba Fett cross the road of Alden Ehrenreich / Han Solo? What galactic era will revisit this spin-off? These are all questions that will now shake up the galactic communities, which have been waiting for several years for a dive into the shallows of the galaxy after the aborted series projects (Star Wars Underworld) and video games (Star Wars 1313).
Should this be seen as a consequence of Solo’s disappointing figures at the world box office ($344 million in revenue in one month when Rogue One had finished its race over one billion)? A willingness not to rush projects to meet a pre-established schedule? A desire to give Star Wars back that event-oriented side that the franchise was beginning to lose by releasing one film a year since 2015? Perhaps a little of all this behind the decision taken by Disney and Lucasfilm to put the spin-offs of the intergalactic saga on hold until further notice, thus casting a blur on the projects around Obi-Wan and Boba Fett that Stephen Daldry and James Mangold were respectively to lead.
According to Collider, who reports the information, the idea would be to focus on Episode IX of J.J. Abrams, expected on December 19, 2019 in our theatres, and the new trilogies being prepared by Rian Johnson and the Game of Thrones creators. Feature films that, in the long term, could even take precedence over those hitherto gathered under the banner “A Star Wars Story” and which have experienced many clashes: before disappointing at the box office (which can also be explained by the fact that it was released in May, Boba Fett It’s Cold Outside Christmas Star Wars Shirt therefore in the middle of the blockbuster season, when the others had distinguished themselves in December), Solo had made people talk about him when his directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller were fired, and their replacement by Ron Howard, a few weeks before the shooting ended.
Previously, Josh Trank had been disembarked from the spin-off he was working on (the one on Boba Fett according to rumours) during pre-production, while the consequent reshoots of Rogue One had not been directed by Gareth Edwards but Tony Gilroy, credited as co-writer in the credits while his work was much more important. Challenges that the studio had previously overcome, but this step backwards is its first real failure with the saga for which it obtained the rights in October 2012, and thanks to which it has earned at least a billion dollars per year since 2015. Will this decision allow him to rectify the situation? Will the spin-offs ever be relaunched? Questions that we hope to have answered soon.
Star Wars… I’ve made my peace with the fact that there are three good movies in the franchise and maybe nothing will come after that. So I’m a passionate hater of the prequels and felt “Star Wars: The Awakening of Power” as an even more drastic descent. So I left “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” out of the question and will also ignore “Solo: A Star Wars Story”. Only “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” was at least okay. But it’s clear that Disney will milk the cow until she falls over. And so there are several new movies about single characters in the room.
Director James Mangold (“Logan”) is supposed to be responsible for a new blockbuster. The film is supposed to revolve around fan favorite Boba Fett. Not only Mangold himself is supposed to work on the script, but Simon Kinberg seems to be his partner. The latter already wrote some scripts for the X-Men movies. But it won’t end with a film about the galactic bounty hunter. The myth of Obi-Wan Kenobi is also to be dismantled with its own film.

Stephen Daldry (“Trash”) could direct the movie about the Jedi. However, here everything is still in a very early phase, because there is no script yet. Actually, I have to admit that at least the movie around Boba Fett sounds promising at first: Mangold is a good director. With Kinberg as his partner, he has already delivered a great result for “Logan”. A little hope germinates in me. As a boy, Boba Fett had a bigger role in the TV series “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” than in the movies. The character became more and more popular with fans over the years. I’m curious to see how a standalone film could ultimately take the character into account.
It has only been a few hours since Jon Favreau published a first summary of “The Mandalorian” via Instagram. Now a first picture of the “Star Wars” live action series, which is now in the shooting, has been submitted directly via StarWars.com. While it’s still unknown who plays the title character of the Mandalorian – according to rumours it could be “Game Of Thrones”-star Pedro Pascal – we might get an impression of him on the following photo, even if it wasn’t explicitly announced, if it’s really the protagonist of the series. But the picture should definitely show a Mandalorian, after all he wears armour that strongly reminds of those of Jango and Boba Fett, probably the most famous representatives of the warrior group.
According to the official synopsis in “The Mandalorian” a new warrior will appear after Jango and Boba Fett. The series is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order (between the “Star Wars” episodes VI and VII) and accompanies a loner on the edge of the galaxy, who fights his way through secluded from the authority of the New Republic.
It has been a well-kept secret who will sit on the director’s chair for the eight episodes of “The Mandalorian,” in which Disney is to invest a good ten million dollars each, even though some rumors about possible personal details have been circulating recently. Now the list of filmmakers who will stage the series has been officially unveiled. At least in part, this now confirms previous reports.
Star Wars veteran Dave Filoni, author and director of numerous episodes of “The Clone Wars”, Star Wars Boba It’s Cold Outside Christmas Shirt “Rebels” and the latest animation series “Star Wars Resistance”, will actually deliver the first episode. For the subsequent episodes, Deborah Chow (“Jessica Jones”) and Rick Famuyiwa (“Dope”) were hired, as well as New Zealand export Taika Waititi (“Thor: Decision Day”). One episode will also come from the actress Bryce Dallas Howard, known from “Jurassic World” and “Black Mirror”, who has so far only tried her hand in directing short films on a few occasions. Meanwhile, “Iron Man” and “The Jungle Book” director Jon Favreau apparently won’t take a seat in the director’s chair himself, but will content himself with his task as a showrunner.
