When Luke (Mark Hamill) in “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” has reached its low point with Boba Fett Yoda Darth Vader Stormtrooper Christmas Shirt and is about to torch the ancient tree of power, Master Yoda appears as a ghost, gives his former disciple a final lesson and is as odd as he has been in “The Empire Strikes Back” since 1980. There is a lot of work behind this short return (which will be well documented on the Blu-ray/DVD to be released on April 26, 2018): It was rummaged in the archives to be able to build the new Yoda according to the plan of the very first doll – and Yoda stripper and voice Frank Oz came to the set in England especially to bring the little green master and his team to life. This trip revealed to attentive fans long before the start of the film that Yoda would return. Well, a good one and a half years before “Star Wars 9”, an anonymous informant takes over this job.

A “production familiar source” told the New York Daily News that the producers behind the final part of the Skywalker saga are planning to bring Yoda back for the grand finale. If everything goes according to plan, this time he won’t be Luke but Rey (Daisy Ridley) – and that would make perfect sense. The 900 year old Jedi was involved in the training of all important “Star Wars” movie Jedi: In “Episode 3” he warned Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) of the dangers of personal ties, in “Episode 5” he gave Luke on Dagobah a Jedi crash course – and in “Episode 9” it will therefore be Rey who hears Yoda’s wisdom (who probably has now learned himself that the Jedi training with its waiver rules belongs reformed).
Yoda became one with the Force in “Episode 6”, his student Luke Skywalker followed him at the end of “Episode 8”. Will he also return in “Star Wars 9” as a power spirit? Mark Hamill said only recently in an interview that after the death of Carrie Fisher he no longer has much desire to play the hatch – and yes, Luke’s development in “Star Wars 8” did not correspond to his imagination. But it would be premature to think that Hamill had finished Star Wars. On the one hand he didn’t rule out a return anywhere, he just speaks more openly and ambivalently in public than one is used to from actors. On the other hand, the Skywalker saga could end with “Star Wars 9”, as already indicated by the official side, or will at least pause for a few years – it would be stupid if Luke of all people didn’t stop by at least for a moment. “Star Wars 9” by J.J. Abrams starts on December 19, 2019 and the content is neither officially nor unofficially known (except of course that Rey, Finn, Poe and Kylo are coming back).

Fans of “Star Wars” can now get in the mood for the final of the space saga. On Tuesday Disney presented the final trailer of “Der Astieg Skywalkers”, which is a good two and a half minutes long. Fans will also be able to buy cinema tickets for the last episode of the cult series, which celebrates its premiere on December 18, starting on Tuesday. According to Disney, advance sales will start at 8 a.m. German time.
In Germany, the new trailer went online around 5 am. Half a million users already clicked the play button on YouTube in the first hour. In the USA the advertising break of a football game was chosen for the first broadcast – as expected millions of people are watching, the perfect platform for such a mammoth project.
The trailer promises, as hardly expected otherwise, spectacular battle scenes, both in space, in the air on foreign planets or on the ground. Everything is moving towards the crowning conclusion of the “Star Wars” saga. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly magazine, director JJ Abrams said that the big challenge for Episode 9 was to pick up on the story of all the previous movies. We say which characters are to be seen again, which planets and which spaceships play a role. The Characters: Heroine Rey (Daisy Ridley) can be seen several times in the lightsaber duel with Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). Also Finn (John Boyega) and Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) apparently don’t lose anything of their engagement against the dark powers. Poe can be seen in the trailer as the leader of the rebels.
Especially emotional for fans: There is a reunion with Leia, who was played by Carrie Fisher until her death in 2016 and is now brought to life thanks to previously unreleased recordings, and Lando Calrissian, whose actor Billy Dee Williams is now a proud 82 years old. But not only the former smuggler and once best buddy of Han Solo, Lando Calrissian, returns. So there is also a reunion with Darth Vader – at least with his appearance. So you can see in the trailer how Rey and Kylo destroy together a statue, which wears the helmet of Vader. In this as well as in other scenes it remains open whether Rey or Kylo really fight together or one of them has a vision. Because in other scenes both fight against each other. While Darth Vader only appears as a silent statue in the trailer of “Star Wars – The Ascent of Skywalker”, another villain from the past raises his voice: The Emperor. The voice of former Senator Palpatine was already heard in the form of laughter in the previous teaser trailer. Now she returns. And the emperor can probably be seen from the side in a scene. At least you see a figure in a dark cape facing Rey. So does the emperor return in his original form? The scene from the trailer speaks for it. Fans had recently speculated whether his spirit might not be looking for a new body after the supposed death in Episode VI. The target had been speculated about Rey.
The planets: Rey can probably be seen on Endor at the beginning of the trailer. There she trains – a training helmet like Luke Skywalker once used falls to the ground. She fends off small laser beams as they fire training equipment. Here, too, the circle closes to the past films. Thus the Battle of Endor in Episode VI marked the end of the Empire.
In addition to the natural moon, there is also a scene on probably the most famous planet in the “Star Wars” universe: the Death Star. In one scene of the trailer, Rey and Kylo face each other in the room where Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader and the Emperor were seen in Episode VI.
The Spaceships: JJ Abrams not only brings together the stories of the past in characters and locations, but also in the spaceships used. The largest space in the double sense is occupied by the star destroyers. The former ships of the empire can be seen several times. They rise from an ocean and can be seen again in battle scenes. With the Millennium Falcon the most famous spaceship from “Star Wars” returns. Fans will probably have noticed an innovation: The last rectangular satellite dish is round again. Moreover, in the battle scenes behind the Millennium Falcon there is another ship to be seen, which resembles the Falcon in its construction. Beside the Millennium Falcon there is another iconic model: a Blockade Runner. A ship of this type is the first ever to be seen in a Star Wars movie. In the opening scene of Episode IV of 1977, such a rebel ship is pursued by a star destroyer and finally captured by Empire troops around Darth Vader. On board the Blockade Runner: Princess Leia wear Boba Fett Yoda Darth Vader Stormtrooper Christmas Shirt, who also appears as a character in Episode IX. And even if not all Star Wars fans are happy that Disney is exploiting the license acquired by George Lucas on a grand scale – besides the regular episodes, several other movies and series from the universe have been announced or already published – it can be assumed that the interest will be extremely high.
